Interview with Stony Brook Coach Jim Nagle

Lax beat: First of all, how does feel to be back on Long Island?

JN: It's great to be home. Long Island is the ultimate hotbed for lacrosse. There is no better place to be a lacrosse coach.

LB: What excites you the most about your new head coaching position at Stony Brook?

JN: This is where the best players and the best coaches are. The Long Island community has always loved lacrosse. Now Stony Brook University loves lacrosse. It's a perfect fit.

LB: I see that two members of your coaching staff from Colgate, Craig Gibson and Andrew Watkins, have followed you to SBU. What can you tell us about them?

JN: Trust in the people that you work with is the ultimate thing for me. It has made the transition easier knowing that we are all on the same page.

LB: Which returning players will you look to for leadership?

JN: Kyle Moeller and Robbie Campbell

LB: You recently received a great present in high profile transfer, Jeff Tundo. How did that come about?

JN: Jeff is looking forward to getting a fresh start at a new place. He is really excited to be at Stony Brook and we are really excited to have him here. I feel that Stony Brook is the best place for someone looking for a second chance or a fresh start.

LB: What can you tell me about your team goals?

JN: We are always focused on winning the league and advancing in the NCAA tournament.

LB: What style of play can we expect from the Seawolves?

JN: We will have a team first attitude with an emphasis on passing. We will play slow when that is best and fast when it makes sense to.

LB: LI lacrosse fans, as well as fans of Stony Brook are hoping to see some of the signature wins that you were able to achieve at Colgate (Syracuse X2, Maryland, Army, Navy). Was there key that you can point to in those wins? How did you get the team to believe that they could take out those top programs?

JN: Usually the hay is in the barn at that point. If I did anything that helped in those games, it was that I stayed out of the way.

LB: What were you happiest about your team's fall season? What will you have to work on?

JN: What made me happiest is that the guys were open to change. We will have to be much more disciplined in our fundamentals.

LB: How are your transfers fitting in with the rest of the team?

JN: Very well. We may have a few more on the way.

LB: Do we need a shot clock?

JN: Something needs to change, but I would like to see no horns and three short sticks at midfield before a shot clock.

LB: What are you most looking forward to doing with your family on LI?

JN: Going out east when I get some time.
